The iBook version has been a bit of a pain. It’s an EPUB file but it has some idiosyncrasies — things that look fine on the computer look a little weird in the iBooks app. Nothing major, just small formatting issues. Kat got the Kindle version running tonight, which was created from the EPUB file, and that gave us no trouble. Go figure. We’re still reviewing, revising, and tweaking until the end, making it look as slick and professional as possible. I don’t want anybody to read this and go “Oh, that’s obviously self-published.” The big reveal is next week.
I’ve written the press release (with the style cribbed directly from two press releases for gaming books that I was sent when I was in the press!) and I’ve drafted a letter to pitch media outlets on coverage. It’s more than a little surreal to be on the other side of this equation, and I am not sure if the media will say “Huzzah, now we will stop getting asked ‘how do I get your job’ every day” or “Oh no, all these wannabes are going to feel empowered and entitled, and I don’t agree with Dan’s advice anyway.” We’ll see.
